I started North Star Fine Coffees in the fall of 2006 with nothing more than a concept in my mind to sell coffee…

I got the idea for coffee when I asked my wife, after I had concluded from weeks of forecasting that the U.S. furniture market was going down, “If I can broker furniture, what else can I broker? I want something WE are passionate about and … that the American public is passionate about.”  She said, casually, “I don’t know, coffee?”  That set us on a course that is now making Seattle history.

No matter the hardships, trials and all of our struggles, we never quit moving forward. We always persevered.  Love kept us together through the hardest times.

In our first 3 years, we have created several [amazing] premium blends, private labels that are news worthy, and now … the introduction of our new hand crafted, premium ice creams.

Every great company goes through growing pains.  Leaders who are stretched beyond their capabilities yet try to hold their position for pride’s sake bring companies down. I believe that a good leader knows his strengths and weaknesses; where weakness is, he brings in a team player who excels in that area of weakness and the health of the company is fortified. A good leader identifies potential problems and meets them head on.

By God’s grace and strength, I’ve carried North Star to this point.  I will continue raising the bar in the Specialty Coffee industry, but I will not be doing it as CEO.

Effective immediately, Nate Silverman will become the CEO of North Star Fine Coffees.

Nate is a Top 100 entrepreneur, best business practice consultant, and seasoned C-level executive who knows North Star Fine Coffees inside and out, shares my vision and passion, and has our best interests at heart.  I will be working with him closely, especially during this transition.

My new role will be that of President. I will continue to push North Star Fine Coffees forward as our brand ambassador while Nate focuses on the daily business at hand, procuring funding and fulfilling all of the requirements that the position of Chief Executive Officer demands.  I’m confident that he will do a fine job.

Nate, congratulations. I pray for God’s blessings, grace, strength and wisdom to be with you as you take the reigns and move us forward.

This is a great and historical time for North Star Fine Coffees.
